Cuyahoga County, Ohio:
Indiana Bat Surveys

A recently captured big brown bat is carefully examined. All bats are quickly released after recording some basic biological data
A comprehensive survey for the federally endangered Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis) was conducted at The Holden Arboretum in Geauga and Lake Counties, Ohio. Davey Resource Group scientists worked closely with state and federal regulatory agencies to determine the scope of work necessary for this project. A detailed report that included all methodologies and results was written for the client. Four species of bats were recorded during the course of this investigation, including the regionally rare red bat and northern longeared bat.

In addition to the scientific study, Davey Resource Group worked closely with The Holden Arboretum staff to develop this project into an educational event for members and local residents. An introductory lecture was followed by supervised field trips to observe night - time netting for wild bats.
