South Carolina Electric and Gas (SCE&G) strives to provide the best source electrical power to its customers. Davey’s Utility Services Division is helping to make that happen.
Davey is entering its second year of providing SCE&G with vegetation management, specifically with clearing and maintaining the utility’s rights-of-way. In addition, Davey and SCE&G are working to establish a long-term partnership.
SCE&G serves about 300,000 natural gas customers throughout central and southern South Carolina. It also generates, transmits, distributes and sells electricity to more than 600,000 retail and wholesale customers throughout the state.
Approximately 21 Davey crews work on the SCE&G system. Jarraff, aerial, and conventional climbing teams perform clearing in the region of the state capital of Columbia and in the Low Country – Walterboro District, which comprises the coastal counties of South Carolina.
SCE&G allows each crew to contribute its strengths in different areas. For example, Davey’s climbing crews are best used in the Columbia District, and Jarraff crews excel with rural work. Davey’s goal is to be productive and efficient when trimming to specifications while providing the work at competitive rates.
