For the first time at a Super Bowl, the U.S. Forest Service is implementing a public domain software monitoring system that it developed with The Davey Tree Expert Company.
The software, called i-Tree, is expected to monitor the carbon impact of Super Bowl tree-planting efforts, which are part of a larger push to reduce the event's environmental impact.
The technology will also help forestry officials safeguard the trees' future. i-Tree quantifies the value of annual environmental and aesthetic benefits such as energy conservation, air quality improvement, carbon dioxide reduction, storm water control and property value increases.
