Consider these timely tree tips when caring for your trees this year and contact your local certified arborist for help with any treatments or inspections.

Spring March 21 – June 20

  • Arbor Day (plant a tree)
  • Watch for spruce spider mites on conifers
  • Avoid root zones when treating for lawn weeds
  • Continue preventive applications for leaf diseases
  • Avoid root injury when planting annuals and perennials
  • Avoid damaging trunks when mowing lawns
  • Monitor for pests and diseases
  • Elm injections for Dutch elm disease
  • Tree health inspections

Summer June 21 – September 21

  • Inspect for summer mites on deciduous plants
  • Water during dry periods
  • Remove seed heads from rhododendrons
  • Monitor for pests and diseases
  • Don’t injure roots if installing irrigation systems
  • Prune trees and shrubs that flower on last season’s growth
  • Prune for clearances, sunlight, and air movement
  • Add new mulch where needed
