Kent, Ohio - The Davey Tree Expert Company is proud to announce its 2016 National Big Tree Calendar and local television feature “Summer Shade Using Trees” have earned 2017 Media Awards Silver Medal of Achievement, presented by GWA: The Association for Garden Communicators.
Davey’s Big Tree Calendar has won the GWA silver medal award for four years running. The calendar, a Davey tradition for 25 years now, is an ode to some of the nation’s oldest, largest and most magnificent trees. Featuring trees throughout North America, each month offers a photograph of one of the year’s 12 trees accompanied by a piece on the tree’s history.
“Summer Shade Using Trees” won a silver medal in the television appearance category of digital media. Brian Cox, district manager of Davey’s Dallas office, appeared on FOX 4 Dallas to talk about the advantages and importance of that shade trees provide throughout summer and the types of trees local homeowners can plant to create shade in their yard.
“The GWA Media Awards are an exciting opportunity to match our team’s work against some of the best of the best in the world of garden communicators,” said Sandra Reid, vice president, Davey corporate communications and strategic planning administration.
Since the early 1980s, the GWA Media Awards program has recognized outstanding writing, photography, graphic design and illustration for books, newspaper stories, magazine articles and other works focused on gardening. In recent years, the awards program has expanded to include on-air talent, production and direction for radio, television, video, Internet and other electronic media.
