Kent, Ohio – The Davey Tree Expert Company has announced the promotion of Gordon Matthews to the position of market manager, east-central operating group, U.S. Residential/Commercial services.
Matthews started with Davey in 1982 as a lawn care technician in the North Detroit R/C office. He was promoted to assistant district manager of the North Detroit office in 1985. In 1989, Matthews became assistant district manager of the Akron R/C office. He was promoted to district manager of the Akron office, his most recent position, in 1996.
“During his tenure as district manager, Gordon’s extensive industry knowledge coupled with over 20 years’ experience greatly benefited his Akron, OH clients,” said Jim Stief, executive vice president, U.S. R/C operations. “In his new role, Gordon will help deliver that same level of exceptional care to Davey clients across a much larger region.”
Matthews is a 1988 graduate of the Davey Institute of Tree Sciences, which is Davey’s flagship training program in biological sciences, safety, tree and plant care and management techniques. He is an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist® and a past member of the Davey President’s Council, whose members serve a three-year term on various committees to brainstorm and research new ideas related to the company’s operations.
